Women within the Secularism movement have more opportunities today for sharing their unique perspectives. Advocate for social issues that are broader than a lack of belief in any god, including: complete and total separation of church and state, scientific integrity, human rights for all, promoting peace, family values, women's rights, education, gender equality regarding government legislation actions, etc. ~Lisa Mosham

ATHEIST BILLBOARDS ARRIVE IN NORTHEAST OHIO
11 billboard ads showcase non-believers

May 5, 2014

Cleveland, Ohio – Billboard ads are being placed around Northeast Ohio showcasing area nonbelievers as part of a national “Out of the Closet” campaign sponsored by the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Highlighted on 11 billboards (nine around Cleveland and two in Akron) are individuals, couples, families and/or groups, with their own personalized quotes on each board. The ads are intended to inspire other area atheists, agnostics, humanists and freethinkers to be comfortable about “coming out of the closet” as non-believers.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has been running this ad campaign in cities around the U.S. since late 2010. This is the first time that it has been done in Northeast Ohio. The participating groups are Northern Ohio Freethought Society (NOFS), and the Akron Secular Student Alliance (SSA) at Akron University.

Annie Laurie Gaylor, Co-President of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, stated, “It’s time to welcome atheists and agnostics into the American mainstream. Freethinkers are respectable and have much to offer our nation.”
“This is very exciting for us, and I am grateful that we can be a part of it,” said Marni Huebner-Tiborsky, Director of NOFS, a chapter of the Freedom From Religion Foundation. “I hope this campaign has a positive effect in our communities, and gets people to rethink their views about atheists.”

Marni’s husband Mark Tiborsky is on one of the billboard ads with his wife. “We just want to let other non-believers, or those on the fence about their religious belief, know they’re not alone and that the local non-theist community is both welcoming and growing.”

Sharon Woznicki, another NOFS member, said, “I’m very proud to be part of this campaign. We’re letting people know it’s okay to be an atheist, and we want other like-minded people to be comfortable coming out of the closet.”

The billboard ads are slated to appear by the evening of May 5 and will be in place for one month. For more information, please visit:
